Berntholer was for sure one of the most intriguing Belgian bands from the early 80’s. Founded in October ‘81 by Drita Kotaji (Vocals), Simon Rigot (Guitar/Synth) ,Manu Poutte (Synth/Guitar) and Pol Fourmois Bass). Pierre Sorvil joined the band as 1984 on drums. After a first single (“Japanese Garden”) in ‘82 the band released the classic single “My Suitor” in “83 followed by an extended 12 inch version in ‘84 arranged by Wim Mertens (Soft Verdict). The song was championed by John Peel at BBC Radio 1 and became a real cult hit in Europe. Berntholer disbanded on April 30 th 1985. A short carreer and limited backcatalogue but it still is worth to re-discover their subtle new wave sound and beautiful songs which have aged gracefully. This album compiles their best tracks from their official releases and a selection of demo’s for the first time on vinyl including the never before released “Heartbeat”.
