New Rising Sun: Biography 2007 -‐ 2011: The beginning of New Rising Sun and the making of two albums: Paradise For A Stranger and Good Morning Once Again Singer-‐songwriter Dries Bongaerts and guitarist David Hermans met each other on the streets of Antwerp as buskers in the summer of 2007. This encounter and beginning of a friendship formed the base of the band New Rising Sun which on this day counts five members. In addition to vocals and guitars the harps, bass, double bass, keys, violin, banjo and drums determine the sound of New Rising Sun. Influenced by Bob Dylan, Bonnie Prince Billy and Tom Waits, the band released a first demo in 2008. In the following years two albums saw the light: the intimate and acoustic Paradise for a stranger (2010) and the vivid, full-‐band album Good Morning Once Again (2011). 2011 -‐ 2014: New Rising Sun wins competitions, the song Sad Sad World gets picked up by Radio 1 Taking part in several competitions and performing a lot results in a strong and solid live reputation. The band won Linkerwoofer Rockrally, Antwerp on Stage Rockrally, a second place on Burgrock and managed to get in the final of the Red Bull Bedroom Jam at Trix. In 2013 New Rising Sun won the protest song contest by ONE Campaign ( an advocacy campaign organization, founded by Bono) and the Ancienne Belgique. New Rising Sun entered the competition with a cover of Bob Dylan’s Hurricane and enlisted Sad Sad World, a song of hope that was quickly picked up by Radio 1 (a Belgian radio channel operated by the Flemish public broadcaster VRT). New Rising Sun won the competition. As a result the band played at the Feeërieën and got to record songs in the well sought after AB-‐sessions. 2015: New album We’re All Coming Home In the beginning of 2015 New Rising Sun releases a third album. The captivating We’re all coming home will be presented on the 13th of January at the Arenbergschouwburg in Antwerp.
